Despite having been retired for nearly two years now, Dr. Anthony Fauci, former Chief Medical Advisor to the White House and former director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, is still costing taxpayers millions of dollars.
Documents obtained through a Freedom of Information Act request by watchdog group Open the Books reveal that Fauci reportedly has a chauffeur and a full security detail made up of members of the United States Marshals Service – all fully funded by the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).
The Marshals Service is meant to be the security and enforcement arm of the federal justice system and usually focuses on tracking down fugitives and protecting judges. The Marshals Service has struggled with recruitment and budget shortfalls in recent years. One recent report indicated that the agency is nearly $30 million short of its budgetary requirements to better protect federal judges.
Despite these constraints, crucial resources were still diverted to provide Fauci with security. (Related: “Remdesivir Papers” show that Fauci’s COVID drug of choice KILLED U.S. military servicemen.)
The security arrangement, formalized in a Memorandum of Understanding between HHS and the Marshals Service, spanned from January 2023 to September 2024, with options for extension. This agreement outlines that the $15 million allocation includes salaries for security personnel, transportation expenses and necessary equipment.
Fauci’s agreement with the Marshals Service is considered “unprecedented,” especially for an individual who is no longer a federal employee and is just a private citizen.
However, Fauci claimed this government protection has been necessary since he led the U.S. government’s response to the Wuhan coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. According to him, he is still receiving death threats due to his high-profile role in the implementation of lockdowns and COVID-19 vaccine mandates.
Critics have pointed out how unfair it is for a private citizen to receive federal protection paid for by American taxpayers, especially given how many public figures who are also prone to receiving death threats have not received similar taxpayer-funded security.
“Fauci retired from the federal bureaucracy as the highest paid government employee, with a $480,654 salary,” noted one critic. “His pension is estimated to cost $355,000 [in taxpayer dollars] per year. His net worth is $11 million. Not bad for a ‘public’ servant.”
“It’s stunning that in addition to all of that, we spent $15 million on his security for the past two years. That’s $15 million that nobody asked us if we wanted to fork over to America’s richest bureaucrat,” continued the critic, who posted on X. “Let’s not forget the royalties he made from the vaccine manufacturers for pushing that shot. How much was that again? Like $5 million?”
Given Fauci’s past mistakes during the pandemic and the current burden he has placed on American taxpayers, calls for his prosecution remain strong years after the lockdowns and the pandemic ended.
